Feedback

Four months ago one of my films posted on You Tube was inexplicably highlighted in a Google search. Thousands of people viewed it in a matter of days. I was inundated with comments; many were angry and often included personal attacks. At first I deleted them, then I tried to answer some of them but was usually met with more anger and/or ridicule. Finally as the views approached one million I decided to package all the comments: good, bad and undecipherable into this book. They are printed in chronological order.

Diary of a Foundling Artist

This signed limited edition hardback book is an abridged version of a blog written on the artists newsletter website. It skims over the mild trials and tribulation that lead up to the hanging of RSVP at the Foundling Museum, London.

Waiting Game

I'm playing that waiting game now. I'm waiting for the Trustees' portrait to arrive in time to get it to the framers so it can be framed in time for collection to be taken to the museum.

I'm waiting for enough trustees to be foregathered so that I can film them. This has become more important as Gill has written about the piece for the catalogue. I'm half thinking about faking the whole thing like the NASA moon landings or going out with a dart gun.

I'm also waiting for a book version of this blog to arrive from the printers and realising now that I will have to do another version with this post in it.

On top of this I'm beginning to worry about the price of failure. Apparently in the Eighteenth century you could be hung for lots of things including: the concealment of effects by bankrupts and the malicious maiming of cattle.

Bad Thoughts

This book contains a number of bad thoughts donated, in the main, by the citizens of Bury St Edmunds. The thoughts range from the mildly amusing to the fairly disturbing and if you are of delicate disposition or tender years you should perhaps tread carefully.

Personally, I don’t believe that the specifics of the texts contained within this book should be taken too seriously. Despite recent horrific events in the US, it is extremely rare for people to act on the thoughts and impulses that flit across their minds. However, it is quite interesting to look at the general trends and omissions. There is a sense of game playing in the text. A heady mix of sex and violence is coupled with a willingness to push boundaries and taboos, but not too far. Alongside this there are a few serious thoughts about relationships, escape and commitment.

Sometimes I’m pleased my father died because I know if he was still here we’d fall out constantly because I’m nothing like what he would have wanted me to be.

Artists are lazy bastards, they don’t deserve success.

I want to shag my best friend's dad.
